Antique Demilune Walnut Cabinet

This demilune walnut cabinet is just so eye-catching and pretty😍. Complete with a vintage fabric lining and gold metal leaf. The photos also include two videos (one of which is purely to show the gold metal leaf better), and two before photos within the album to show the transformation.

The beautiful burr grain displays wonderful depths of golden luminosity at various angles as the light hits it. Each of the cabriole legs have carving details which really add to the overall grandeur of this piece.

The interior contains one shelf, which has the option of 3 height positions.

The door has its original lock and key. *Just to note*: due to the age of this piece, the bow fronted door has become slightly warped, so the top left corner slightly goes in further when closed. This obviously doesn’t compromise the function or aesthetic, as you’ll see from the photos.

The glorious vintage fabric used to line the interior was originally a 1940s bedspread. It is woven, integrating a silk gold thread to form the leaf pattern. I wanted to specifically source a fabric to not only compliment this piece, but to match the beauty of the outside and give it a really plush feel. All the seams have a twisted gold cord laid along them for added detail and interest.

I’ve attached a blue tassel to the key and placed one of my vintage beads on top. Just a little touch, but really compliments the exterior as well as tying in with the interior.

The inside of the door has a piece of the fabric applied, framed with gold metal leaf and twisted gold cord. (created to look like a framed picture).

PROCESS HIGHLIGHTS:

🔶 Whole piece cleaned inside and out - backpiece removed to access shelf

🔶 Whole piece stripped of old finish and finely sanded

🔶 Furniture oil applied to whole exterior and interior exposed wood

🔶 Satin polyurethane applied to exterior

🔶 Wax applied to exterior and exposed interior wood, then buffed

🔶 Fabric cut to line interior, then applied

🔶 Twisted gold cord applied to seams

🔶 Protective upholstery spray applied to fabric

🔶 Gold metal leaf applied to shelf, sealed, then waxed and buffed - underside oiled and waxed

🔶 Gold metal leaf applied to inside of door, sealed, waxed and buffed

🔶 Fabric and gold cord added to inside of door

🔶 Vintage bead on top of tassel - painted gold

*Care note*: the outside will just need a dry dust as and when. It can be re-waxed approximately 3 times per year - any cleaning chemicals, may damage the surface. The fabric applied, has been sprayed with a protective upholstery spray which hasn’t altered its appearance or tactility. However, I would still advise avoiding any liquid / items that could mark the surface as a preventative measure.

*Please also be aware that vintage/antique items I sell may have age related marks / nicks / patina, especially depending on the age and original purpose of the item. I see the beauty and history in these, so will either leave them in, or work with them to add to the overall aesthetic of particular pieces*
